We were hooked the moment RACES started spraying from our speakers! The LA natives were on a whirlwind tour up and down the west coast of North America when they met up with us at Neptoon Records located at 3561 Main St.

Held back at the boarder, RACES was missing frontwoman Devon Lee, but soldiered on, creatively improvising for both their session and their set at the Media Club that night. Playing in this Green Couch Session are frontman Wade Ryff on Guitar/vocals, Garth Herberg on Guitar and Breanna Wood on Piano/vocals. Sitting on the sidelines, flipping through records, were Oliver Hild on Bass/Moog and Lucas Ventura on Drums/percussion.

Neptoon has been around for over 30 years making it Vancouver’s oldest independent record store. Robert the owner was more than welcoming, lending Wade his 12 string guitar and letting us take over his shop for an hour. Neptoon not only sells records and hosts Green Couch Sessions but also serves as a small vibrant venue for local acts. They will be packed on March 3rd for The Evaporators all ages record release show.

We met Ohbijou the day after their show, during load out at The Biltmore. We fWilmed just moments before they headed to catch a ferry to Victoria. They were passing through Vancouver touring their 3rd studio album Metal Meets.

Communicating to one another with an almost telepathic ability, the band’s closeness was apparent to us as soon as we arrived. The relationship with each other and their instruments produces a sound unique to Ohbijou and solidifies them as one of the most important groups making music in Canada.

We were all honored, couch included, they could spare a few precious moments for us while on a busy tour.

Shred Kelly are a hoot hollering toe tapping six-piece with serious stomping power.

They pounded the floor boards so hard at our first location we were asked to leave.

So we took our couch to the gazebo on Bidwell and Burnaby. It didn’t have stairs and the gate was locked but we boosted each other and the couch up and over.

A small crowd gathered and we are pretty sure someone called the cops because towards the end of the last song a police officer and a paddy wagon rolled up. He was super cool and waited for the music to stop before kindly asking us leave.

Shred Kelly hale from the small mountain town of Fernie where they get everyone on the dance floor with songs of tornado destruction.
